Our Ocean Wealth Summit, in association with  , takes place on 10 June at Cork’s City Hall. Our Ocean Wealth Summit is Ireland’s flagship event for the marine sector. From engineering to shipping, from aquaculture to energy, from technology to biosciences, this Summit brings together Irish and International organisations working to create innovative, sustainable solutions with global impact that drive our blue economy.

As an island nation, this year we are acknowledging the role of islands in Our Ocean Wealth, and the theme for the 2019 Summit is Shared Voices from Small Island Nations. The Summit will hear from global leaders including environmental activist and former US Secretary of State John Kerry and a host of world leaders of island nations as well as researchers, entrepreneurs and academics to engage, network and shape discussions about the maritime economy, and the related opportunities and challenges.



John Kerry
Former U.S Secretary of State
John Kerry served as the United States’ 68th Secretary of State from 2013 to 2017. As America’s top diplomat, he guided the Department’s strategy on nuclear nonproliferation, combating radical extremism, and the threat of climate change. His tenure was marked by the successful negotiation of the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris Climate Agreement. From 1985 to 2013, he served as a U.S. Senator representing Massachusetts, and was Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 2009 to 2013. He served in the U.S. Navy, completing two combat tours of duty in Vietnam for which he received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Combat V, and three Purple Hearts. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his law degree from Boston College Law School. Secretary Kerry is the best-selling author of A Call to Service: My Vision for a Better America, This Moment on Earth, as well as his recently published memoir, Every Day Is Extra, his first memoir. He currently serves as the Distinguished Fellow for Global Affairs at Yale University and the Visiting Distinguished Statesman for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

In addition to the Summit delegates will also have the opportunity to attend a Marine Industry Showcase hosted by Enterprise Ireland which continues until Tuesday 11th June.  25 companies, along with national stakeholders, from three specific sub-sectors of marine will be present:

  • Offshore Renewables, in particular Offshore Wind.
  • Smart Ports and Harbours/Smart Shipping.
  • Maritime Security and Surveillance
