The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD, has launched Bord Bia’s third promotional campaign for Irish Pelagic Fish across Japan, Asia’ largest retailer.
Through a promotion with the leading retail group, Aeon, Bord Bia is bringing the taste of Irish seafood to the attention of Japanese consumers.
Irish Mackerel, Horse Mackerel and Herring products were promoted across 100 Aeon retail outlets in Japan from 15th to the 17th March.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the quality and sustainability credentials of seafood from Ireland and includes information leaflets for consumers at point of sale.
The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan T.D said “As an island nation, we are delighted once again to help raise awareness about the high quality seafood Ireland has to offer and the unrivalled sustainability credentials that govern our production. We know that Aeon continues to increase its commitments to certified sustainable production systems and this plays to the strengths of Irish pelagic exports”
Bord Bia’s Chief Executive, Tara McCarthy said this retail promotion, now in its third year, is a key element in Bord Bia’s trade development programme, focused on identifying new market opportunities for the Irish seafood sector.
“Ireland has a reputation as an international leader in sustainable production because responsible stewardship and environmental protection are core principles guiding the development of our wild fisheries,” she said. “When Japanese customers source seafood from Ireland they are sourcing seafood from companies working under the Origin Green sustainability programme who are committed to reducing their environmental impact, serving their local communities more effectively and protecting the extraordinarily rich natural resources that our country enjoys”
